What: Health Care Event:
Featuring the film "Sick Around the World"

When: Wednesday, September 9 at 7pm
Where: American Women's Club of Zurich Clubhouse

The ongoing Health Care debate in the United States has dominated the US headlines and led to the US health care system being compared to many other countries. To provide insights, and hopefully answer some questions, we will show the PBS Documentary "Sick Around the World" (http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontl...roundtheworld/). This documentary explore how five other capitalist democracies -- the United Kingdom, Japan, Germany, Taiwan and Switzerland -- deliver health care, and what the United States might learn from their successes and their failures. We will view this film and then have a guided discussion. All are welcome!

There will be a cash bar available and light snacks will be served.

The American Club of Zurich is, once again, organizing a fabulous July 4th party at the Restaurant Alter Tobelhof!! Democrats Abroad in Zurich is inviting all of our members to attend this great party where there will be: live music, great food (buffet), drinks, prizes, and FIREWORKS!!! It's a great event that many of our members attended the 2008 bash. ZURICH CHAPTER ELECTIONS

On March 21, 2009 Zurich became DA Switzerland's first Chapter! Now it is time to hold elections for a Chapter Chair and a Chapter Secretary/Treasurer to lead in the organizing efforts. The Chair also serves on the DACH Executive Committee.

Currently Jennifer Giroux has been the defacto Chair of Zurich during this transition period. The Chapter Chair and Secretary/Treasurer will be elected for a two-year term commencing immediately. Only registered DA members living in the Swiss-German speaking region of Switzerland will be allowed to vote and run for one of these two positions.

THE MAIN DUTIES OF EACH OFFICER ARE AS FOLLOWS:

Chair: For the Chair of Zurich we are looking for someone that can continue to build the local membership and organize a dynamic group on a regular basis! Upcoming events in the next term include: monthly meetings, special fundraisers, documentary showings, Global Issues Forum, and periodic holiday/thematic events. The candidate should be a dedicated team player who can work with the DACH Executive Committee. For more information contact Chair@democrats.ch

Secretary/Treasurer: We need someone who can, not only support the ZH Chair but also maintain an up-to-date list of chapter members using a database, manage local finances, take minutes at monthly meetings, and send out notices of meetings and special events when necessary. Graphic design and web skills would be particularly helpful, but not a requirement. For further information contact Chair@democrats.ch

DA Zurich hosts David Plouffe Fundraiser

On April 2nd, 2009 DA Zurich members had the great pleasure to welcome Barack Obama's Campaign Manager, David Plouffe, for a cocktail reception and discussion. We were joined by members from Basel, Geneva and France! Check out the photos:
